Those who know me outside DA will know that for the past 4 months I've been off in my corner building a web game.
Well, its now in open beta! [link]
So what is it that I've made? It's a griffin breeding and collecting game! We've seen a million pet games over the internet, though, so what makes this one any different? Why, it models real genetics!
So while you can play it just to own some cute griffins, you could also attempt to unlock the griffin genome. It's pretty complex, with 12 unique genes that all have varying interactions with one another. Only all 12 together can determine what the final griffin looks like, so while figuring out a dominance relationship between two traits might be easy, accurately predicting just what will result from a pairing isn't so easy at all! Especially since the full 12 genes nets upwards of 3000 possible final griffin appearances.
Thus, while the basic patterns of inheritance are easy to observe and work into Punnett squares (if you were so inclined), you may still find yourself surprised by the results of your breeding.
The game is integrated into a vBulletin forum to make sharing your griffins with other players easy.
Also, if you like the game, please be sure to check out the piece of art that inspired it: [link] by `hibbary
